Abstract :
Ion current oscillations in a linear geometry Hall discharge with an open electron drift are studied using a planar Langmuir probe. The bulk discharge behavior is reconstructed from time-resolved measurements of the local ion current density. These ion beam images reveal the same fluctuating "breathing" behavior found in closed-drift Hall thrusters
