Abstract :
Joint dispatch, in which all the generating resources in an interconnected system are centrally dispatched, can result in significant production cost savings as compared with independent area dispatch. A three-area production simulation model is presented that evaluates the expected unit energy generation, the expected area unserved energy, and the expected poolwide and area production cost savings. Random-unit forced outages, unit joint ownership, and transmission interconnection constraints are considered in the model. The simulation results for a sample three-area system are presented
