  • Abstract
The author describes his career in control engineering, and in particular the role of feedback. He moved from Germany to the USA in 1956. He refers not only to engineering aspects but also to the American preference for organizing all aspects of life as self-regulating systems that keep themselves in equilibrium without a higher authority, and also to his choice of career. Besides industrial experience, he has worked on academic studies into the history of science and technology, with particular attention to feedback
