Abstract :
To determine the safety of electroventilation, strength-duration curves were obtained for both ventricular myocardium and motor-nerve using transthoracic electrodes situated at the optimal axillary site for electroventilation. From these data, the chronaxie values for motor-nerve and ventricular myocardium were determined. The chronaxie values obtained are shown to be sufficiently different, indicating a minimal task of myocardial stimulation during electroventilation.
