Abstract :
The calculation of mechanical stresses at the rotor surface is shown to be a simple procedure for the common types of electrical machine in which armature current can be represented as a rotor surface current sheet. Use of this technique can lead to a better appreciation of the mechanics of torque production in electromagnetic machines than alternative energy methods.
