Abstract
This textbook was selected for use in a new, one-semester (4 hours, including laboratory) course entitled "Introduction to Digital Circuits and Systems." This is a service course that is designed to prepare students in engineering, physical, and mathematical sciences to study applications of microcomputer instrumentation systems. It is the reviewer\´s belief that students with this goal need a background in circuits, electronics, and digital concepts with the latter comprising perhaps 40% of the course. Very few books available today have material allocated in such a proportion. Although this text has the needed material, it also has much that could not be used in a one semester course. The reviewer found the book to be well written, remarkably free of errors, and useful. The examples are good, and they tie in to the previous experience of the students. He liked the statements of instructional objectives and the mixture of exercises and problems but wishes more of the problems had answers printed in the book. The reviewer agreed with the students who used the book who complained about skipping around, but he also see this as a feature that helps tie the book together.
