Abstract
The recognition by a subject of information from a video display terminal is investigated in the time domain using information theory and control system concepts. Video stimuli consisting of specially selected words are displayed randomly in space and randomly in order for this purpose. The conclusion leads us to believe that the information theory approach has a higher potential than conventional methods of assessment to help in the design of displays and that visual preconditioning of the subject could pay on a cost-benefit basis.
