Abstract
The purpose of this note is to share some findings on computer science education in Japan based primarily on discussions during my recent visit there. The historical developments of computer science departments in Japan and their curricula are briefly discussed. Two noteworthy features of their curricula are 1) high mathematical standards and 2) a demanding first course in computer science which often assumes elementary programming knowledge.
