Abstract :
How quickly can the electronics sector expect to get over the effects of SARS? The author investigates the impact of SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) on the global electronics industry with particular emphasis on the electronics sector´s Asian manufacturing heartlands, where China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan are the worst affected countries. He states that the World Bank remains confident that the combination of SARS and the conflict in the Gulf will cause only a temporary blip in East Asia´s economic growth rate.
