Abstract
Reviews the scientific understanding of the structure of near-Earth asteroids and methods of improving the chances of averting a possible devastating impact by deflection. The prospects for the proposed Ishtar spacecraft are outlined. [Note that the picture of Meteor Crater in Arizona has unfortunately been replaced by one of the "SEDAN" underground nuclear explosion collapse feature at the Nevada Test Site].
