Abstract
Four nonlinear instantaneous frequency estimators are derived by symbolically expressing the output of linear predictive techniques in terms of the input data samples. The estimators are similar in form to the instantaneous frequency estimators associated with the discrete energy separation algorithms (DESAs). The mean absolute error and root mean square error (RMSE) of the new frequency estimators compare favorably with those of the DESAs for a specified class of AM-FM/cosine signals. The new estimators also require fewer computations than the DESA frequency estimators.
