Abstract :
The phenomenal growth, in the last decade, of fiber and integrated optics with their many faceted applications has prompted us to frame a contemporary course on optical waveguides-the basic building blocks of these emerging disciplines. Our approach is divided into two parts: in Part I, an outline of theory course topics has been provided; and in Part II, guidelines for beginning a laboratory on optical waveguides have been provided along with demonstrative experiments which should supplement the theoretical knowledge presented in Part I.
