Abstract :
The convergence characteristics of iterative decoding of variable length codes are discussed. It is observed that variable-length codes with greater redundancy perform better. This suggests that inserting more redundant information in the source-coded bits would be helpful in enhancing the overall performance when iterative decoding is employed
