Abstract
Time-resolved interferometry is used to measure the relaxation of an optically induced phase change in a semiconductor laser amplifier (SLA). A phase change of π recovers in ~12.5 ps. This is proof-of-principle that an interferometric switch using an SLA can be gated at ~80 GHz
