It is essential that more recognition be given to the significant impact of computer technology on communications. This impact is already strongly reflected in two of the fields covered by our Transactions, namely, Computer Communication and Communication Switching. To keep up with this trend, we are introducing a new and rapidly growing area of Communication Software. A further innovation, necessary to amplify and speed up our responsiveness in disseminating technical information, is the introduction of special sections in our Transactions. Each special section will be devoted to a specific and important topic currently in the forefront of a changing technology. To assure fast response and to permit flexible timing, such a special section will appear as a self-contained part of a regular Transactions issue and will include as few as five and up to as many as twelve papers. Our usual paper criteria will apply. The Editor-in-Chief (EiC) concludes by inviting readers to write with any constructive suggestions, ideas, and comments.
