Abstract :
A counterexample is presented to a theorem which has been proposed as a theoretical basis for the method of the closest unstable equilibrium point to estimate asymptotic stability regions in nonlinear systems. An additional condition is formulated under which the theorem is valid. Its implications on the applicability of the method are discussed
