Abstract
The problem of combining flow control and deadlock prevention is considered from a technical point of view. A possible solution is provided by congestion control based on buffer classes, which have been implemented within the GMD-network. This approach facilitates the realization of many variants of flow control mechanisms by adaptation of buffer class limits to the traffic conditions. Some of these algorithms have been studied by simulation methods and are presented in this contribution.
