Abstract
Measurement results of the switching field of a thin film longitudinal media sample for times down to ~0.4 ns are only 5% larger than the Sharrock´s Law extrapolation of data measured with field exposure times ranging between 8 ns and 270 hr. LLG based micromagnetic analysis verify that the lack of a large gyromagnetic enhancement of the switching field for subnanosecond pulses is due to exchange and magnetostatic interactions between the grains. This analysis was also used to verify that the use of a DC pedestal field that is half of the total field does not significantly alter the results
