Abstract :
An analytical formula is developed for a previously reported radio-frequency (RF) spectral monitoring of the Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) frame alignment header (FAH), where special RF filters are used before RF power detection to obtain pulses corresponding to the FAH with the pulse amplitude reflecting the in-band signal-to-noise ratio of the channel. As a result, spectrally resolved signal power as well as noise power is derived. The theoretical analysis explains the previous experimental results.
