Abstract :
A technique is presented whereby a four-quadrant microwave vector modulator can be realised using just two variable gain amplifiers or attenuators. This would normally produce only a single quadrant, so the technique uses a third, fixed, vector to shift the constellation and centre it on the origin. The technique has been demonstrated experimentally at 2 GHz using modular components.
