Abstract
The author steps through a simple collision avoidance system designed to automatically warn the driver when the car is in danger of hitting another car (or other object) in front of it. The urgency of the system´s warning will depend on the car´s speed, its distance to the next car, and the speed of the next car. The design of a fuzzy system can be described in four steps: determination of fuzzy inputs and outputs, organization of fuzzy inputs and outputs into fuzzy sets, determining the fuzzy rules, and defuzzification of the output(s)
