Abstract :
Magnetic heads with both laminated and normal Fe-Al-Si cores (the former with SiO2 between alloy layers) were fabricated, and their properties were evaluated. The permeability of laminated cores was 3.5 times larger than that of nonlaminated cores, which had large eddy current losses. Laminated core heads had larger Q(f) values, and while no significant differences in recording characteristics were observed, the laminated core head had optimum recording currents which were 5-10 mA smaller at each frequency measured. Finally, different permeabilities resulted in different reproduction sensitivities.
