Abstract :
The reproduction characteristics of trial-fabricated yoke-type MR heads (YAMRHs) are reported. It was found that most of the tape rubbing noise for Is ¿ 10 mA was accounted for by tape erasure noise, while for Is ≫ 10 mA low-frequency components of the thermal noise gradually become dominant over erasure noise. However, Barkhausen noise was found to be dominant over both, and must be suppressed if deterioration of eye patterns is to be avoided.
