Abstract :
The electromagnetic conversion and other characteristics of heads fabricated using Co-Zr-Nb multilayer amorphous alloy films are reported. Heads were used in a VHS type VTR to measure the recording/reproduction characteristics, which, using metal tape (Hc = 1300 Oe), showed an output higher by 2 to 4 dB at 5 MHz than other head materials. Outputs were 0.25 mV (normal tape) and 0.44 mV (metal tape) at 5 MHz, for a track width of 24 ¿ and a gap length of 0.69 ¿, sufficient to enable use as a head for metal media.
