Abstract :
The magnetization process in Ni3Fe was studied in relation to the concentration of Ni and the degree of order S, to clarify the role of the antiphase boundary during domain wall displacement. Completely ordered samples were prepared by furnace-cooling from 500 to 400°C at a rate of about 1.5 K/day. In an ordered state the easy axis was along [111] for all samples, and the temperature and Ni content dependences of the maximum permeability ¿m were determined. ¿m was especially sensitive to temperature near the stoichiometric composition. However, changes in ¿m could not be explained by changes in either S or the magnetic crystalline anisotropy constant K1.
