Abstract :
A state-variable dynamic simulation algorithm and the fast Fourier transform are combined to analyse the operating characteristics and highlight the harmonic problems of variable-speed unit-connected generator-convertor systems. With reference to a typical hydroelectric test system, it is shown that it is possible to operate the turbogenerator units within a wide range of frequencies at high efficiencies and with good voltage controllability
