  • Abstract
    The addition of Au, Ag, and Pt to Co-Zr alloys was studied as a means of improving soft magnetic properties, particularly at higher Co concentrations. Film samples were formed by RF sputtering, and the saturation magnetostriction, saturation magnetization, and crystallization temperature were measured. Addition of Au resulted in large reductions in magnetostriction, though the soft magnetic properties themselves changed little. Some Ag and Pt compositions also had zero magnetostriction, but the soft magnetic properties when Pt was added were not satisfactory. Data presented dealt primarily with films containing Au.
