Abstract
The effect of the filtering element in a parallel stream type HGMS filter on the filter performance over time was investigated. A filtering element was constructed by spacing ferromagnetic wires (of radius 50 ¿m) at different spacings and with different spacer thicknesses. The accumulation of magnetite suspended in water in the filter was photographed. Results indicated that a spacer thickness of 0.3 mm, and wire spacing of 0.5 mm, yielded the best performance, and that a magnetic field of 3 kOe was sufficient in actual operation.
