Abstract :
The authors compared recrystallization of MM (Misch metal)-Fe-B ribbon samples from the amorphous state with rate-controlled quenching as means of obtaining hard magnetic properties. Recrystallization of amorphous Fe70MM20B10 yielded a BH product of 4.3 MGOe, while figures in excess of 5 MGOe were obtained by rapid quenching. The latter method was found to be effective for Fe-rich compositions. The lower overall BH products of MM-Fe-B ribbons as compared with Nd-Fe-B was attributed to the low Hc value of Ce, the main component of the Misch metals used.
