Abstract :
A novel optical fibre structure is introduced for large mode area singlemode operation. The fibre consists of a cladding index profile that increases monotonically in the radial direction. It is shown that the fibre can introduce exceedingly high leakage losses to the high-order modes, while maintaining a low loss to the fundamental mode. Numerical results are presented for power-law index profiles.
