Abstract
A torque magnetometer developed for use with a 100 kOe superconducting magnet is described. Torques exerted on the sample are transferred to a strain gauge-transducer, the change in resistance detected by a bridge, converted to a digital signal and recorded. This setup allows the bulk of the torque magnetometer mechanism to be located a distance from the sample, thereby facilitating use of a superconducting magnet, with the field parallel to the sample. In this way, even relatively large magnetic anisotropies may be measured.
