Abstract
Large-scale models of a single pole type perpendicular recording head, as well as actual-size prototype heads, are constructed, and the dependences of the normalized playback output on the main pole length, track width and main pole permeability are compared. The results obtained using the model agree well with the results for the prototype heads. Such models can be useful in studying the characteristics of single pole type heads. It is concluded that a narrower track width is more effective in increasing the playback output than is a higher main pole permeability.
