Abstract :
A hybrid head employing a high saturation flux density material on one gap surface and low saturation flux density material on the other was studied. Compared with the values for normal heads, the hybrid head had about 1.4 times the value of the maximum magnetization gradient on the recording media and its magnetization gradient half-width was significantly less. These results show that it is reasonable to expect that the output and recording density of the hybrid head would be improved over those of normal heads, making it very suitable for the high density required for digital recording.
