Abstract :
A pulsed laser beam was fired at Tb(FeCo) films (2 ¿m spot diameter) and its effect on Kerr rotation angle (¿K) aging was studied, using an avalanche photo diode (APD) as a monitor. It was found that in RE-rich films, the magnetization changed whether or not a bias magnetic field was applied. No such signal was observed in TM-rich films in zero magnetic fields, possibly because of the formation of alternating maze domains within the laser spot which cancel out the Kerr rotation angle.
