Abstract
In this paper, a novel quantization scheme-adaptive companded pulse code modulation (ACPCM)-is proposed. It is shown that, for fine quantization of analog signals, ACPCM will outperform the widely used PCM and DPCM in the sense of minimizing the meansquared quantizing error. For autoregressive (AR)signals, ACPCM is shown to reduce to DPCM. Some examples and simulations are given to demonstrate the method.
