Abstract :
Fabrication of Bi-multisubstituted garnet film on low-cost glass substrates was studied. X-ray diffraction showed that the film was a single-phase polycrystal garnet with no preferred direction. Crystallization temperature decreased as Bi content increases. When Bi was approximately 2mole/f.u., growth was possible at a temperature of around 100°C below that for film growth with no Bi substituted. Calculated values for the stress induced anisotropy caused by the different thermal expansion coefficients of the film and substrate indicated that the perpendicular anisotropy is caused by this stress.
