Abstract :
The authors describe attempts to extend the dynamic range of a torque sensor employing amorphous ribbons, to enable it to measure large momentary torques. The sensitivity and linearity of the sensor varied over a wide range depending on Kb, the anisotropy induced by shear stress in the ribbons. Ribbons were bonded to the shaft transmitting the torque to be measured in various ways. It was found that good linearity could be achieved through choice of an appropriate Kb, enabling extension of the measurable range to large torques.
