Abstract :
The effects of radiated RF interference on wireless communication systems are investigated. Noise source at the antenna input port induced by in-band external electromagnetic (EM) fields is determined based on full EM simulations of the communication systems. Signal bit error rate for a line-of-sight additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel and for a nonline-of-sight Rayleigh channel as a function of the signal-to-noise ratio is used to determine the susceptibility of the systems subject to external power sources. Two specific examples are given, including a dongle for a wireless mouth and a PCMCIA card for a laptop computer.
