Abstract :
Gd-Fe-Co system has a high Kerr rotation under a forced magnetic field, but this is an in-plane magnetized film. We attempted to produce a perpendicularly magnetized film by adding Tb, Dy or Ho to GdFeCo with high Kerr rotation. Measurement of the variation with temperature of ¿K for the samples with Tb, Dy and Ho substituted showed that ¿K was higher for all of them than for the Tb-Fe-Co over the whole temperature range, indicating that they have a sufficiently large ¿K value and that high playback output can be obtained. When static recording was performed on Gd-Dy-Fe-Co perpendicularly magnetized film, excellent recording bit formations of diameter 1.3 ¿m were obtained.
