Abstract
A method is presented for the simulation of the complex optical fields (i.e. amplitude and phase) of laser diodes in circuits and systems, using a modified harmonic balance technique. The method, which incorporates amplitude/phase coupling (chirp) is used to simulate the generation and detection of lambda =1.3 mu m gain-switched laser pulses and their compression in dispersion-shifted optical fibre.
