Abstract
The paper discusses the methods adopted to ensure that the operational software for the Channel Tunnel was delivered to a very high quality standard. The extent and complexity of the various computer systems developed for the Channel Tunnel makes it one of the largest current civil control engineering projects. Increasingly, transportation projects involve significant software content. It continues to be the case that the management of the software development, as a discipline, is understated and is often forgotten until late in the project. The paper considers the computer systems involved. There were many systems within the scope of control and communications, including some very large systems to provide the engineering management system, rail traffic management system, and terminal traffic management system
