Abstract :
A system is described that transports asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) cells through a passive optical local network. It distributes a 155.52 Mbit/s ATM stream to 64 customer ends, synchronising return cells to interleave at the exchange end. A variant to the Orwell protocol is used for bandwidth control.
