The place of foreign language teaching in engineering degree courses

Despite a widespread understanding of the English language, there are a variety of reasons why the study of foreign languages should be made available in engineering degree courses. The inclusion of yet more material to a syllabus which most would think is already full poses a major problem to course organisers. The author discusses various approaches to solving this problem and includes a brief survey of some engineering courses in the UK which includes a language option
