Abstract :
This letter proposes a simple V-shape edge-groove design for a finite ground plane to effectively reduce the pattern ripples of a monopole. Effects of varying the edge structure parameters to improve the pattern have been analyzed through numerical simulations and experimental measurements. The optimal design of the proposed structure can reduce the peak-to-peak pattern ripples from 26 to 4.5 dB. The effective improvement can also be obtained independently of ground plane sizes when large in term of wavelengths.
