Abstract
In 1919, the American Institute of Electrical Engineers (AIEE) selected William L. R. Emmet as the recipient of the Edison Medal. He was cited for his "inventions and developments of electrical apparatus and prime movers." During his long career in electrical power engineering, Emmet demonstrated an exceptional ability to design large turbines, generators, and electric motors for use in central power plants, traction systems, and ship propulsion.
