Abstract :
The author presents an overview of the adaptive equalization process, including various equalizer topologies and error signal generation schemes, for 16 quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) digital transmission systems. Four equalizer structures, along with the concept of blind equalization, are discussed. Simulation results for simple theoretical channels indicate that equalizer performance is a function of the topology, error generation, and underlying transmission channel
