Abstract :
A 8-12 channel coding (modulation) method suitable for high-density recording for a home-use digital video cassette recorder (VCR) was developed. An areal recording density of 2.3 μm2/b can be achieved by this 8-12 modulation method. A signal-to-noise ratio of 24.2 dB and a symbol error rate of about 1×10-4 were obtained experimentally on the tape-head simulator for current metal evaporated tape
