Abstract :
This paper describes the development of a compact and stiff thyristor-controlled HVDC source for investigating the characteristics of contaminated insulators. It has been realized by placing revers reverseparalleled thyristor units in a 3.3 kV line on the primary side of a HV transformer. Since the circuit parameters are difficult to be chosen freely, optimization of the control parameters of the system was achieved through simulating the system on analog and digital computers. Good agreement has been observed between the simulated and experimental results, and simulation was extended further to generalize the thyristor-controlled techniques of source stabilization tion for variable circuit parameters. Moreover, distributions on the magnitude and the waveform of the leakage current were also studied.
