Abstract
To improve the performance of digital communication systems over fading channels, several pilot signal techniques have been proposed in the literature. The authors investigate the use of binary convolutional coding for such systems and derives an upper bound on the bit error probability (BEP), the optimum power split ratio between data and pilot signals, and the channel cutoff rate.
