Abstract
Presents a new type of semiconductor laser, the folded-cavity laser (FCL), which uses dry-etched turning mirrors to make a very compact cavity with low threshold current dentistry. The authors discuss applications of the FCL to optical switching, logic and photonic integrated circuits, and present pulsed and CW results for GaAs/AlGaAs MQW lasers.
